Un nouveau pont en construction sur le ruisseau Bronte à Oakville, en Ontario, pourra accueillir plus de 4 000 véhicules par jour dès son ouverture fin 2026.

Ce pont, qui prolongera le chemin Wyecroft entre le chemin Bronte et la promenade Burloak, offrira une nouvelle voie aux navetteurs, aux cyclistes, aux piétons et aux véhicules privés, tout en contribuant à réduire la circulation sur les routes avoisinantes. De plus, dans le cadre de ce projet, une nouvelle conduite d'eau sera installée pour alimenter Oakville en cas de besoin ou de croissance de la ville.

Ce projet, achevé à plus de 30 %, comportera quatre voies, ainsi que des voies polyvalentes de chaque côté de la route et des pistes cyclables sur la chaussée. Après plus de deux ans de travaux, ce projet est doté d'un budget estimé à environ 117 millions de dollars, dont plus de 50 millions de dollars proviennent du gouvernement régional.

Sarens a travaillé pour Niagara Rigging pour le transport et la mise en place des huit poutres de soutien du nouveau pont tributaire ouest, pesant entre 163 et 175 tonnes. Son équipe d'ingénieurs a réalisé une étude préliminaire approfondie afin de définir les machines et l'installation appropriées, en tenant compte des conditions du terrain et de la distance à parcourir pour placer les poutres à leur emplacement final, soit plus de 75 mètres.

Une fois les poutres chargées dans les installations du fabricant à l'aide de Kamag K2400S SPMT (transports modulaires automoteurs) en configurations de 2 files de 6 lignes d'essieux et 4 files de 12 lignes d'essieux, l'équipe Sarens a transporté chaque unité jusqu'aux piles ouest pour leur mise en place. De l'autre côté, une grue Liebherr LR1600/2 configurée en configuration SDB à 66 mètres, associée à une grue LTM1500-8.1 en configuration TY3, a soulevé chaque poutre pour son positionnement final, tandis que les SPMT étaient retirés.

Pour garantir le respect des normes de sécurité les plus strictes, l'équipe Sarens a placé des patins de grue sous la LR1600/2 afin d'améliorer la stabilité de la grue et la répartition optimale du poids au sol. De plus, il était nécessaire de veiller à ce que le gréement et le câble fonctionnent toujours verticalement afin d'éviter toute oscillation de la charge, susceptible de mettre en danger la sécurité des opérateurs et de l'infrastructure elle-même.

Le projet de construction du nouveau pont West Tributary et de l'extension de Wyecroft Road a débuté en 2019 avec l'approbation du budget correspondant.

Bien que les travaux aient débuté en octobre 2023, le déboisement de la zone a eu lieu en mars de la même année. Toutefois, dans le cadre de son engagement environnemental, la municipalité plantera trois arbres pour chaque arbre abattu lors du développement de cet important projet.

A new bridge under construction over Bronte Creek in Oakville, Ontario, will be able to accommodate more than 4,000 vehicles per day once it opens in late 2026.

The bridge, which will extend Wyecroft Road between Bronte Road and Burloak Drive, will provide a new route for commuters, bicyclists, pedestrians and private vehicles while helping to reduce traffic pressure on nearby roadways. In addition, as part of this project, a new watermain will be installed to supply Oakville in case of need or growth in the city.

This project, which is more than 30 per cent complete, will have four lanes, plus multi-use lanes on both sides of the road and bike lanes on the roadway. More than two years in the making, this project is estimated to have a budget of about $117 million, of which more than $50 million has come from the regional government.

Sarens has worked on behalf of Niagara Rigging in the transport and subsequent placement of the eight support girders of the new West Tributary Bridge, weighing between 163 and 175 tons. Its engineering team carried out a thorough preliminary study to define the appropriate machinery and setup to be used, taking into account the terrain conditions and the distance to be overcome to place the girders in their final location, which is more than 75 metres.

Once the girders were loaded at the beam manufacturer’s facilities using Kamag K2400S SPMTs (self-propelled modular transports) in configurations of 2 files x 6 axle lines and 4 files x 12 axle lines, the Sarens team transported each unit to the west side piers for their placement. From the opposite side, a Liebherr LR1600/2 crane unit configured in SDB setup at 66 metres, working in conjunction with an LTM1500-8.1 unit in TY3 configuration, lifted each girder for later placement in their final location while the SPMTs were moved away.

To ensure the operation was carried out to the highest safety standards, the Sarens team placed crane pads under the LR1600/2 unit to increase the stability of the crane and the correct weight distribution on the ground. In addition, it was necessary to ensure the rigging and cable always operated vertically to prevent any possible oscillations in the load from posing a safety risk to both the operators and the infrastructure itself.

The construction project for the new West Tributary bridge and Wyecroft Road extension began in 2019 with the approval of the corresponding budget.

Although construction began in October 2023, tree clearing in the area took place in March of that year. However, as part of its environmental commitment, the municipal corporation will plant three trees for every one felled in the development of this important project.
