L’éolien offshore devrait jouer un rôle essentiel dans cette transformation, en contribuant à éliminer progressivement la dépendance au charbon et à moderniser le réseau national.

Baltica 2 est développé par Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2, une société à usage spécifique détenue conjointement par PGE, le plus grand service public d’électricité verticalement intégré de Pologne, et Ørsted, un leader mondial de l’énergie éolienne offshore. Cette collaboration réunit une expertise approfondie du secteur et le soutien financier nécessaire à la réalisation d’un projet aussi ambitieux.

S’exprimant sur cet investissement, Grzegorz Zieliński, responsable de l’énergie pour l’Europe à la BERD, a souligné l’importance du projet : « Nous sommes ravis de financer Baltica 2, le deuxième projet offshore de la Banque en Pologne et le plus grand parc éolien de ce type dans la première phase du déploiement offshore polonais. La clôture réussie de cette transaction témoigne de l’amélioration de la compétitivité des coûts des projets d’énergie renouvelable par rapport à la production traditionnelle à partir de combustibles fossiles en Pologne. Together, these institutions are accelerating the growth of Poland’s offshore wind sector, ensuring the country meets its ambitious renewable energy targets.

Baltica 2 is a cornerstone of Poland’s offshore wind rollout, following the pioneering Baltic Power project, which also received backing from the EBRD in 2023. Once operational, Baltica 2 will be the largest wind farm in the Baltic Sea, boasting a massive 1.5 GW capacity—enough to generate around 5,000 GWh of electricity annually. That’s roughly 3% of Poland’s total electricity demand, significantly reducing reliance on coal-fired power plants.

Beyond providing clean energy, the project will also make a substantial environmental impact, preventing over 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. Speaking on the investment, Grzegorz Zieliński, the EBRD’s Head of Energy Europe, highlighted the significance of the project: “We are delighted to finance Baltica 2, the second offshore project for the Bank in Poland and the largest such wind farm in the first phase of the Polish offshore rollout. The successful closing of this transaction is testament to the improved cost-competitiveness of renewable energy projects compared with traditional fossil fuel generation in Poland. Through this investment, the EBRD is reinforcing its support to the entire offshore wind programme.”

Polen zet een gedurfde stap richting een groenere energietoekomst, met de Europese Bank voor Wederopbouw en Ontwikkeling (EBRD) die € 200 miljoen toezegt om de bouw van Baltica 2 te financieren, het grootste offshore windpark van het land tot nu toe. Dit baanbrekende project zal het Poolse energielandschap transformeren en de toewijding aan decarbonisatie en energiezekerheid versterken.

De lening is onderdeel van een breder financieel pakket dat wordt verstrekt door een consortium van internationale en lokale kredietverstrekkers, waaronder de Europese Investeringsbank, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego en het Deense Export- en Investeringsfonds.
