Obaysahi Corporation, l'une des cinq principales entreprises japonaises de construction et de génie civil, a annoncé qu'un nouveau centre à Singapour servira de centre de recherche et développement (R&D) de l'entreprise pour les technologies de construction.

Un événement de lancement a eu lieu le 18 juillet au Obayashi Construction-Tech Lab Singapore (OCLS), en présence des dirigeants de l'entreprise pour une cérémonie d'inauguration. L'installation est située sur le campus Braddell de la Building and Construction Authority (BCA), qui fait partie de l'écosystème du Built Environments Innovation Hub (BEIH).

Obaysahi est l'une des cinq principales entreprises de construction japonaises avec Shimizu Corporation, Takenaka Corporation, Kajima Corporation et Taisei Corporation.

Le BEIH a été lancé en octobre 2023 en tant qu'espace collaboratif permettant aux personnes partageant les mêmes idées de « se connecter et de présenter des technologies innovantes, d'échanger des idées et de transférer des connaissances » dans le secteur de la construction.

« À l’avenir, l’OCLS servira de plaque tournante pour favoriser et déployer les technologies de productivité de la construction de nouvelle génération dans la région asiatique et pour renforcer nos efforts de recherche et développement grâce à une collaboration proactive avec les parties prenantes internes et externes », a déclaré Obayashi.

L’OCLS n’est qu’un autre espace physique dédié à la découverte des technologies de construction émergentes ; Obayashi possède également un institut de recherche technologique à Tokyo, au Japon, un Silicon Valley Ventures & Laboratory en Californie, aux États-Unis, et a récemment ouvert l’Asia Digital Lab à Singapour.

Le développement d’un nouveau centre de R&D, a déclaré la société, est destiné à aider à fournir des solutions aux problèmes croissants qui affligent l’environnement bâti dans la région.

« À Singapour, l’économie de main-d’œuvre et l’amélioration de la productivité sont devenues des problèmes sociaux majeurs dans le secteur de la construction, déclenchés en partie par la pénurie de travailleurs étrangers due à la pandémie de Covid-19 », a déclaré Obayashi.

Obayashi a déclaré que l’OCLS se concentrera spécifiquement sur la robotique de construction, avec la collaboration d’universités asiatiques, d’instituts de recherche, d’entreprises de construction et de start-ups.

« L’accent sera mis sur la technologie de la robotique de construction, qui est activement développée et appliquée dans la région asiatique, et sur le soutien de son application aux chantiers de construction en Asie », a déclaré l’entreprise.

« À l’avenir, OCLS étendra son champ d’action à des domaines autres que la robotique de construction, promouvra activement les résultats de sa recherche et développement en dehors du Japon et favorisera la diffusion de sa technologie. »

Le centre comprendra des collaborations avec le fabricant de robots chinois Fang Shi Technology, la société d’impression 3D SC3DP basée à Singapour et l’Université de technologie et de design de Singapour, qui se concentrera spécifiquement sur la technologie de cartographie de la construction utilisant l’intelligence artificielle.

Obayashi inaugurates R&D construction technology centre in Singapore

Obaysahi Corporation, one of five major Japan-based construction and civil engineering firms, announced a new hub in Singapore will serve as the company’s research and development (R&D) centre for construction technology.

A launch event was held on 18 July at Obayashi Construction-Tech Lab Singapore (OCLS), with company leadership on-hand for a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The facility is located at the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Braddell Campus, which is part of the Built Environments Innovation Hub (BEIH) Ecosystem.

Obaysahi is one of five major Japanese construction companies along with Shimizu Corporation, Takenaka Corporation, Kajima Corporation, and Taisei Corporation.

The BEIH launched in October 2023 as a collaborative space for like-minded individuals to “connect and showcase innovative technologies, exchange ideas, and transfer knowledge” in the construction industry.

“Moving forward, OCLS will serve as a hub for fostering and deploying next-generation construction productivity technologies in the Asian region and for strengthening our research and development efforts through proactive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders,” said Obayashi.

The OCLS is but another physical space dedicated to discovering emerging construction technologies; Obayashi also has a Technology Research Institute in Tokyo, Japan, a Silicon Valley Ventures & Laboratory in California, US, and recently opened the Asia Digital Lab in Singapore.

Development of a new R&D centre, the company said, is meant to help provide solutions for burgeoning problems plaguing the built environment in the region.

“In Singapore, labour-saving and productivity improvement have become major social issues in the construction industry, triggered in part by the shortage of foreign workers due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Obayashi.

Obayashi said the OCLS will have a specific focus on construction robotics, with collaboration coming from Asian universities, research institutions, construction companies and start-ups.

“The focus will be on construction robotics technology – which is being actively developed and applied in the Asian region – and supporting its application to construction sites in Asia,” said the company.

“In the future, OCLS will expand its scope to fields beyond construction robotics, actively promote the results of its research and development outside Japan and promote the spread of its technology.”

The centre will include collaborations with Chinese robot-maker Fang Shi Technology, Singapore-based 3D-printing firm SC3DP, and Singapore University of Technology and Design, which will focus specifically on construction mapping technology using artificial intelligence.

Obaysahi Corporation, een van de vijf grote Japanse bouw- en civiele techniekbedrijven, kondigde een nieuw centrum in Singapore aan dat zal dienen als het onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingscentrum (R&D) van het bedrijf voor bouwtechnologie.

Op 18 juli werd een lanceringsevenement gehouden in Obayashi Construction-Tech Lab Singapore (OCLS), met het bedrijfsleiderschap aanwezig voor een ceremoniële lintjesknipperij. De faciliteit bevindt zich op de Braddell Campus van de Building and Construction Authority (BCA), die deel uitmaakt van het Built Environments Innovation Hub (BEIH) Ecosystem.

Obayashi zei dat de OCLS zich specifiek zal richten op bouwrobotica, met samenwerking van Aziatische universiteiten, onderzoeksinstellingen, bouwbedrijven en start-ups.

"De focus zal liggen op bouwrobottechnologie, die actief wordt ontwikkeld en toegepast in de Aziatische regio, en de ondersteuning van de toepassing ervan op bouwplaatsen in Azië", aldus het bedrijf.

"In de toekomst zal OCLS zijn scope uitbreiden naar gebieden buiten bouwrobotica, de resultaten van zijn onderzoek en ontwikkeling buiten Japan actief promoten en de verspreiding van zijn technologie bevorderen."

Het centrum zal samenwerkingen omvatten met de Chinese robotmaker Fang Shi Technology, het in Singapore gevestigde 3D-printbedrijf SC3DP en de Singapore University of Technology and Design, die zich specifiek zullen richten op bouwmappingtechnologie met behulp van kunstmatige intelligentie.
