Le spécialiste du transport lourd Mammoet a été engagé pour transporter un total de 7 réacteurs de raffinerie de Houston vers une usine d'éthylène à alkylat située à Pasadena, TX. Les navires, qui avaient été expédiés d'Espagne, ont été déchargés du navire dans le port de Houston/TX et chargés sur une combinaison Goldhofer comprenant 48 lignes d'essieux robustes PST/SL et THP/SL éprouvées de Goldhofer dans une file de 4 combinaison (1+1) de 24 lignes d'essieux, chacune avec un plateau tournant de 300 t. « Nous avons choisi cette configuration car la route imposait des limites en termes de largeur et de longueur avec ces navires d'environ 60 m de long, et c'est la combinaison de transport la plus compacte et la plus flexible », explique Marcel Kooyman, chef de projet chez Mammoet.

Le plus grand des 7 réacteurs, un déisobutaniseur pesant plus de 440 t et mesurant environ 200 pieds de long et 21,2 pieds de diamètre, a mis à l'épreuve non seulement les compétences de toute l'équipe de transport, mais également la configuration des véhicules utilisés. Ce n'est que dans le cas de deux ponts qu'une troisième remorque devait être ajoutée. Avec une combinaison aussi longue, il était possible de la placer simplement sous la charge au niveau du ventre du navire pour mieux répartir le poids et éviter de surcharger les ponts. En conséquence, ce transport gigantesque a pu parcourir les 20 miles jusqu'à Pasadena sans aucun problème majeur et dans les plus brefs délais.

Heavy lift specialist Mammoet was contracted to transport a total of 7 refinery reactors from Houston to an ethylene to alkylate plant located in Pasadena, TX. The vessels, which had been shipped from Spain, were discharged from the ship in the port at Houston/TX and loaded onto a Goldhofer combination comprising 48 of Goldhofer’s proven PST/SL and THP/SL heavy-duty axle lines in a 4-file combination (1+1) of 24 axle lines, each with a 300 t turntable. “We chose this configuration because the route imposed limits in terms of width and length with these approximately 60 m long vessels, and this is the most compact and flexible transport combination,” says Mammoet’s project manager Marcel Kooyman.

The largest of the 7 reactors, a deisobutanizer weighing over 440 t, and measuring approx 200ft in length and 21.2ft in diameter, challenged not only the skills of the entire transport team but also the vehicle configuration used. Only in the case of two bridges did a third trailer have to be added. With such a long combination, it was possible to simply place it underneath the load at the belly of the vessel to better distribute the weight and avoid overloading the bridges. As a result, this mammoth transport was able to cover the 20 miles to Pasadena without any major hassles and in the shortest possible time.

Missie volbracht met Goldhofer PST/SL zelfrijdende transporters
Heavy lift specialist Mammoet kreeg de opdracht om in totaal 7 raffinaderijreactoren van Houston naar een ethyleen-naar-alkylaatfabriek in Pasadena, TX te transporteren. De schepen, die vanuit Spanje waren verscheept, werden in de haven van Houston/TX van het schip gelost en op een Goldhofer-combinatie geladen, bestaande uit 48 van Goldhofer's bewezen PST/SL- en THP/SL-aslijnen voor zwaar gebruik in een 4-bestand combinatie (1+1) van 24 aslijnen met elk een draaikrans van 300 ton. “We hebben voor deze configuratie gekozen omdat de route beperkingen oplegde in breedte en lengte met deze circa 60 meter lange schepen en dit is de meest compacte en flexibele transportcombinatie”, zegt projectmanager Marcel Kooyman van Mammoet.

De grootste van de 7 reactoren, een deisobutanizer met een gewicht van meer dan 440 ton en een lengte van ongeveer 200 voet en een diameter van 21,2 voet, daagde niet alleen de vaardigheden van het hele transportteam uit, maar ook de gebruikte voertuigconfiguratie. Alleen bij twee bruggen moest een derde trailer worden toegevoegd. Met zo'n lange combinatie was het mogelijk om het eenvoudig onder de lading op de buik van het schip te plaatsen om het gewicht beter te verdelen en overbelasting van de bruggen te voorkomen. Als gevolg hiervan kon dit gigantische transport de 20 mijl naar Pasadena afleggen zonder grote problemen en in de kortst mogelijke tijd.
